We are living in a time of escalated hate and discrimination where many LGBT people are afraid to live openly and authentically. Hate crimes have skyrocketed and our community’s need for safe spaces, advocacy, and help is paramount.
The words on the top of this page are not the words of a stranger or someone we read about online, nor are they the words of the past. These words belong to Zack, an LGBT Network community member and youth who not long ago walked through our center doors for the first time in search of hope and belonging. What Zack found was much more:
“Immediately I felt safe and comfortable, like I belonged. For the first time I had a sense of personal value.”
Although these are Zack’s words, they also represent the feelings of thousands of LGBT individuals and families who have found assistance, support and community at the LGBT Network.
The LGBT Network is a home and voice for LGBT people, their families, and support systems of Long Island and Queens. Our four community centers help LGBT people to be themselves, stay healthy and change the world.
Together we can change the world and it all starts here at home. By supporting the LGBT Network, you will be directly impacting the lives of people like Zack. Your contribution will help people feel safe to be themselves and have access to the support and services they need and deserve.
Please consider giving at a level meaningful to you and know your gift will make it possible for us to protect and empower our community through efforts like our Safe Schools Initiative, Mental Health Counseling, Support Groups and Community Education.
Happy Holidays and thank you for your support!
