Transportation Services for LGBT Older Adults Announced
Expanded transportation program increases access to the LGBT Network’s SAGE-LI Programs
The LGBT Network is proud to announce new transportation services for its SAGE-LI LGBT older adults to access its social support programs starting in April 2017. The program is an expansion of the organization’s existing transportation program for LGBT youth, and will provide free round-trip van transportation services for LGBT older adults.
The transportation program will launch with service to weekly SAGE-LI “mingles,” taking place at the Bay Shore community center on Mondays, at the Woodbury community center on Tuesdays, and at the Hampton Bays Senior Center on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month. Additional transportation services will be added based upon community need.
The purpose of the program is to help LGBT older adults attend SAGE-LI programs due to the inability to drive or a lack of access in some other way. The transportation services bridge a service gap between the SAGE-LI “Mingle” socials and its Friendly Visitor Program for homebound LGBT older adults.
LGBT older adults can request transportation by contact the SAGE-LI Program Coordinator, Amy Angelone, at 631-665-2300. Wheelchair accessible vans are available.
