LI GSA Network
LIGALY's Long Island Gay-Straight Alliance Network helps students and staff of Long Island high schools start, develop, and maintain gay-straight alliance (GSA) clubs as a means of creating safer and more supportive schools for GLBT students. The LI-GSA Network is a region-wide, school-based advocacy and empowerment program that gives GLBT and ally youth a voice to address harassment and provide support for other students. There are currently nearly 100 GSA’s in the network from schools all over Nassau and Suffolk counties.
LIGALY’s LI-GSA Network provides direct technical assistance to students and staff who are interested in starting a GSA in their school. We can provide you with literature, talking points, and tips to help you advocate for the creation of your GSA club. After that, we can help you make sure your club is successful through our educational workshops and training programs.
Education and Training
GSA Network member-organizations are provided with a variety of training programs to build skills in leadership, goal setting, recruiting members and more. GSA trainings take place during your regular GSA meeting time and are free-of-charge. Click here for Training Descriptions.
Each spring, the LIGALY’s LI-GSA Network and the Safe Schools Team coordinate GSA Networking Events throughout the island. These events allow GSA members to share ideas, build skills, and meet other students. Check back to this website regularly and look out for email announcements for the next GSA networking event!
